On Trashing the World

State of the Oceans: Please Click to Watch.

After the full moon party in Koh Phangan
the pristine beaches for miles become a war zone
of trash. It becomes dangerous to play in the waves.
You might get hit on the head
with a beer bottle or worse.
Is this fun? And the Greeks
carelessly throw trash in the pristine Ocean
that surrounds them.
And the people of Thailand
and Indonesia callously trash some of the most
beautiful beaches in the world.
They think it is normal…
I think this madness must be exposed
as the great evil it is.
There is an old scripture verse:
“And God will destroy those who destroy the Earth.”
I wonder… When birds and their babies on islands
2,000 miles from human shores
are choking to death on plastics
what have we come to, and do we care?
Everything is interrelated, and what goes out
comes back. We better wake up.
I say, we better wake up.
And now is the day, to wake up.
If not now… when?
Next time you see a bit of trash,
you can pick it up. You can be an example
of sanity. We all can… and must.
