Erotic Means Pure and Fun

Since we experience life not as it is, but as we are, it has been a critical aspect of my growth to purify all my bodily senses, for it is through the senses that Life pours. I can never know the purity of existence as it actually is when my receptivity and processing are twisted. The sun may be pure white, but if the window glass is blue, the room will appear blue, and a young child in it may even imagine the sun itself is blue. I am in this practice of healing and cleansing and can only say that it is so, so beautiful and I am utterly thankful for it.

Purification is the difference between drinking a stream at its primal, mountain source, glistening out from under clear ice, or drinking from a stagnant pool down in the valley which is full of beer cans, dead animals, old hairbrushes and used oil filters. Both are water, but…

Let’s be honest and clear: the collective consciousness of mankind is full of perversities, delusions, warped fantasies, defense mechanisms, brokenness and outright selfish evil. And in spite of all this, the world is full of goodness, kindness, compassion, healing, beauty and yes, even innocent purity. The thing is to see the difference clearly, understand that things function according to their natures, and choose: choose to come clear, to feel pure energies, to enter Life in Love so our relationship with all becomes joyfully life-giving to all.

Let’s consider our way of relating to the pure energies of Life in our bodies. For most people, other than hunger, thirst and the need of air, the most obvious bodily function is sexual energy, or erotic pleasure. It is a powerful energy. Why? Because Life is a powerful urge. Have you ever seen how a growing tree can crack stone? And, unbound, healthy Life is, by its very nature, pleasurable, attractive, delightful.

The word erotic means to evoke sexual pleasure. What is sexual pleasure? I mean the raw, “naked” sensation produced in the body/mind energetic system — not the water in the valley type, full of socially instilled mental connotations, wounded emotions, repressed instincts, toxic shame, addiction, and degrading language descriptions. If you meditated deeply on the very essence of sexual sensation, how would you describe it? What words might you use for purified sexual sensation?

Fun… how about fun? Fun means joyful. Fun means pleasurable and playful. These naked sensations rippling through us are fun by their very nature. Pleasurable. Pleasure means delight, joy, bliss. Bliss means ecstatic and even heavenly sensations or states of being. The gift of sexual pleasure is a harmonious, intensification of sensitivities and pure pleasure: heavenly.

Pleasure is healthy: in fact it is the body’s communication that it is doing really well. The tragic thing is, we have gotten so accustomed to stress we rarely experience the shining pure pleasure of our bodies. And because our foundational adolescent relationship to sex in our bodies was so often twisted with secrecy and guilt we have repressive defense mechanisms that tell us that too much good feeling is “not right”. This is twisted. The body knows that health is pleasurable and shining health is extremely pleasurable.

Untainted by mental projections, in their raw nakedness, all bodily functions are purely innocent, as innocent as Life actually is. And sexual pleasure is pink innocent. It is silver innocent. It is laughing, explosive thankfulness innocent. It is a clean wind and clear light, fertile earth and pure water. It is a naked, happy flame.

The pure essence of sexual energy is utterly life-nourishing, stress relieving, restorative and healthy. When is affirmed and fully welcomed in Love (contrary to projections by fear), it does not take over and make us mindless sex addicts. Just the opposite, it finds its supportive, enhancing harmony with all other aspects of our being. It is repressed guilt, shame and fear that most often are at the root of the powerful fixations of addiction. Things are trying to come up and get healed, to be released into innocent joy, but we keep misunderstanding what is happening and warp it all with selfish obsessions.

In our growth towards being a happy race (in the midst of and beyond this present time of stress) let’s use words that connect us to the pure essence of Life as it really is. Let’s recover all the gifts as they actually are, flowing out of the pure infinite Source of Existence. Our expressions will enable us to grow more open and free as well as naturally spread health in the world.
